The animated face of an old work colleague (perhaps I should say "ex-work colleague" for fear of retribution re the "old" thing) ...

A cross-screen filter would have put a nice star type 'ping' on the ring...

Andy... did you use a cross-screen filter ? It's a clear glass filter with a very finely etched series of lines running both vertically & horizontally. The normal resultant effect is that any small bright reflection or light source ( such as a ping of reflected light off a piece of chrome, or a street light at night etc. ) will become a similarly fine cross ping of light normally with a very defined, sharp-edged starburst effect. It's also used to enhance reflections off jewellery hence my suggestion. To achieve this one normally has to retake the shot with the filter affixed to the lens, as opposed to adding the effect afterwards. Keen to acertain your method.

No LG, I didn't go back and make the poor girl sit for the pic again *laugh* ... I 'adjusted' it in PS using the 'Lens Flare' filter and a bit of tweaking to make it work :)
