"... and still they come" ... An Orson-esque take of the invasion of our bay. "As night closes in, the giant mechanical creatures groan into life ... inching their way slowly from the ocean towards the unsuspecting city ..."

Or could it be a mini-herd of Giraffa Camelopardalis shuffling their way to the banks of the mighty Congo River looking out towards the Gulf of Guinea in search of the delight of their diet... the genus Mimosa ?

Actually I rather like the Orson- wellian concept... now bring on the Triffids !

On further reflection this could well-be the beginning of the onslaught of the fearful giant preying mantis, which feed on vertibrates and are one of Nature's natural predators... as the group of giant mantis inched their way forward devouring anything that dared to move in their path, they came to the very edge of the riverbank and poised, as if scenting the air around them. Small lights twinkled around their limbs. Fireflies that dared not move but could not extinguish their tell-tale lights...
